How can I check my instrument for damage caused by low humidity?

Any of the following is a sign of damage from low humidity:

1. Frets are not smooth (especially at the edges),
2. the neck is no longer straight,
3. the body changes shape,
4. the bridge lifts or shifts,
5. strings buzz,
6. cracking of the neck and/or body (in the instrument’s body; not yours),
7. and the whole tone of the instrument changes.
